If you are an EAIT student in your final or penultimate year and have yet to attend to career preparation, Career Kickstarter will help you spring into action!

The program is a collection of workshops, industry led events, peer support opportunities and coaching support focussed on helping you develop the knowledge and skills required to engage professionally with industry and launch your career. To ensure you gain maximum benefit from this approach, as you move through the program you will be invited to share what you have learned and receive feedback on your progress. 

The program is for you if you:

  • Seek a structured approach to career preparation with a ‘sprint' approach 
  • Wish to prepare for the competitive graduate application market and learn the facts of what makes a successful job application
  • Wish to grow your career confidence
  • Seek the advantage through attendance at the exclusive, industry attended, Mock Assessment Centre and Career Kickstarter Networking event
  • Wish to complete a supplementary activity for the UQ Employability Award.

Application details

Available to a selected 50 final and penultimate year students per semester, we are currently accepting applications for Semester 1 2019. Applications close Wednesday 13 March 2019.

Applicants must
Be a current UQ student in penultimate or final year of study
Demonstrate a desire to complete a thorough approach to career preparation

Your obligations
Students are expected to participate in all steps of Career Kickstarter in the allotted timeframe of no more than 2 semesters

What's involved

  • Introduction To Career Preparation (45 min)
    The student and graduate market is extremely competitive. Learn the formula of what will make you stand out from the crowd.
  • How To Write A Great Resume And Cover Letter (45 min)
    A professional resume and cover letter are probably the most important documents you will ever write. Come along to the workshop and learn what employers are looking for in your professional documents.
  • Interview Skills That Will Get You Hired – Introduction (45 min)
    Your professional resume and cover letter have worked successfully and now you have the interview! Make sure you arrive ready to impress and secure the offer.
  • Workshop: Interview Skills That Will Get You Hired – Advanced (45 min)
    Achieving success in a Behavioural Interview does not come without preparation. In this workshop we will share with you the formula to the perfect answer.
  • Workshop: Planning Your Job Search Strategy (45 min)
    The hidden job market is real with many jobs in Australia not publicly advertised. Join us to ensure your job search strategy is covering all angles.

Hear directly from employers about their organisation, recruitment processes and the types of vacancies that they have available. Don't forget to network and make new connections!

Connect with a panel of UQ EAIT students and graduates who will share their career journeys, real life experiences, advice and tips to help you as you enter the workplace. Networking is essential!

With your attendance at all 5 workshops and 4 events complete, you are well and truly under way with your career preparation. Get ready to practice all you’ve learned in the EAIT Mock Assessment Centre. This capstone event delivers an authentic graduate recruitment experience, featuring assessment activities typically used by employers. Attended by industry, participation will leave you confident and prepared for the real thing.

Your Career Kickstarter experience continues with a 1 hour consultation with an Employability Advisor for a comprehensive review of your career preparation progress, including your resume, interview skills and feedback on your performance at the Mock Assessment Centre.

With your career preparation steps complete, enjoy attendance at a unique Career Kickstarter industry networking function where you will meet with employers seeking applicants just like you!


FAQs

Any final and penultimate year EAIT student may apply. With only 50 places available per semester there is a competitive application process to participate. See the registration form for more details.

Register for Career Kickstarter and book your seat at the core workshops and events on dates most convenient for you. Career Kickstarter workshops and industry events repeat each semester so you can work through the steps at your own pace.

You can start and complete Career Kickstarter whenever you wish, within a 12 month period. The Career Kickstarter Mock Assessment centre and Industry Networking event occur once per semester, dates will be announced early each semester.

You may find that events you attended in semester 2, 2018 are eligible towards your completion. Qualifying events will be automatically linked to your Career Kickstarter workflow.

No, Career Kickstarter, and all other content provided by the EAIT Employability Team, is completely free.

No, you may attend in any order you wish however, workshop attendance is recommended prior to attending the industry attended events to assist your preparation – you never get another chance at making a good first impression!

Your attendance will be recorded on Student Hub and you will receive regular updates from the EAIT Student Employability Team on your completion status.

You are not required to sign up for Career Kickstarter to attend any of the EAIT Employability Team sessions. However, completion of the program, ensures you a comprehensive approach to your career preparation. In addition, secures you exclusive entry to the Mock Assessment Centre, a comprehensive 1 hour review of your career preparation progress and an invitation to our unique industry networking function.

Attend the 5 core workshops, a minimum of 2 EAIT Looking Forward Series events and 2 EAIT Employers on Campus series events to qualify for participation in the Mock Assessment Centre. Next, book in for your 1 hour career preparation appointment for a thorough review of your progress. Finally, enjoy attendance at our unique Career Kickstarter industry networking event and watch your career take off!
