Women in Engineering – Student Leader Onboarding

Congratulations!

Congratulations for being selected to be part of the 2025 Women in Engineering Student Leader Team.
Being a SL is super fun and you will likely make some valuable close friends amongst this group. You are in a great position where high school students and current students look up to you – grab this opportunity with both hands and take advantage of it!

Please read carefully each step of the onboarding below and use it as a resource and guide for your journey as a Student Leader.

And most importantly, have fun!

The official WE uniform

The official WE uniform is a purple WE shirt and black bottoms. This can be black pants, skirts, or shorts. Please ensure they are an appropriate length. Also, don't forget to use comfortable, closed-in shoes – sneakers are always welcome!

Representing UQ and WE

As a Student Leader, at any event you represent both UQ and WE. Our leaders have an impeccable reputation within UQ’s community but also schools all over Queensland, please always keep this in mind. Here are some tips to make a great impact in our events:

  • Be a good example: This means being courteous, helpful, cooperative and honest in your interactions with others. You should avoid inappropriate jokes, stories, pictures, discussions, swearing, or any other behaviour that could offend or harm someone else. Racism, stereotyping, bullying, or any other form of discrimination is not tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly.
  • Be punctual: Remember to include time for parking, sign-in/check-in and walking to the classroom. We suggest arriving around 30 minutes early to each event/school visit.
  • Emergencies: If you are unwell or have an emergency, please give as much notice as possible so we can find a replacement or a backup.
  • Carry your blue card: You must bring your blue card to each school visit. See how to obtain yours in the blue card step.
  • Do your homework: Do your research and be informed about the presentation topics, studying at UQ, all our programs, and activites. See the Event Resources step for a list of useful materials.
  • Be safe: Follow workplace health and safety at all times. If you have questions, ask the school representative or the WE team.
