Program structure changes in 2021

From 2021, the way we deliver our Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology programs at UQ is changing.

The structure of these programs and the courses available to study have been updated.

Students commencing their studies in 2021 will be enrolled in the new program structures.

Students already studying these programs can complete their program in the existing structure or they may be able to choose to transition to the new structure.

What does this mean for current students?

I want to continue in the existing pre-2021 program structure

Please be assured that if you are enrolled in an existing pre-2021 program, you will be able to complete the program structure and rules that were in place when you commenced.

There are transition plan checklists available to guide you through this process. The most important guiding principle behind the design of your transition plans is that no student will be disadvantaged by these changes.

I want to change to the new program structure

In some instances, pre-2021 students may choose to change to the new program structure. To do this, you will be required to submit a program change request via mySI-net during the program change request window. You are strongly advised to complete the transition checklist and seek academic advice before requesting a program change. Once a program change is approved, you will not be permitted to return to the discontinued structure.

If you choose to change, you will be required to follow the 2021 program structure and program requirements. Please note that in some instances, there are no existing substitutions for new compulsory courses in the new program.

This may mean that you will be required to complete additional courses above the minimum program requirements. In addition, due to the progressive rollout of some new course offerings, this may also result in a potential delay to your graduation.

It is very important that existing students seek academic advice before requesting to change into the new program.

Please be aware also that due to fee changes resulting from the Job Ready Graduates Package, the 2021 schedule of fees may apply to students changing programs.

Where can I get help?

Checklists have been developed to assist you to make a plan for your enrolment. The checklists outline your enrolment options for continuing in your current program or transitioning to the new program structure.

It is strongly recommended that you download and complete the appropriate checklist and make an appointment to discuss your enrolment with an academic advisor.

The Faculty is also available to assist you if you require any help. Once you have completed a checklist and made a plan, staff in the Faculty are available to check your plan.
