Architecture, Design and Planning Placements
You must follow our six-step process before you can enrol in the industry placement in either ADPS3300 or ADPS7300.
Register your interest and take note of the application submission deadlines for the semester you are interested in.
Enrolment semester | Self placements open | Self placements close |
Semester 1 | 1 November (previous year) | 31 January |
Semester 2 | 1 April | 30 June |
Summer semester | 1 September | 31 October |
2. Register your interest in the course
Let us know in advance that you're planning to enrol in a placement course so we can send you updates, share opportunities and remind you about key dates.
Placements for this course are managed through UQ's placement management system, InPlace. To apply for enrolment in ADPS3300 or ADPS7300 you must first register your intention to enrol via InPlace.
- Log in to InPlace using your student username and password (UQ single sign on).
- If this is your first time logging in, you will need to accept the InPlace terms and conditions.
- Navigate to 'My Details' via your username at the top right of the screen.
- Update your personal details - mobile number, emergency contact.
- Scroll down to the section 'ADP Industry Placement Registration'.
- Select the semester in which you plan to enrol.
You must register your interest for the relevant course, year, and semester to gain access to the InPlace Self Placement submission portal and application form
Below is a diagram that provides a process overview for self-source placements:

Note: You won't be able to enrol in your course on mySI-net until we've confirmed your placement in InPlace (see step 6).
3. Find an industry placement
Placements for ADPS3300 or ADPS7300 are student self-sourced. As per the course requirements, 100-130 hours must be completed during the coursework dates for the semester in which you intend to enrol.
Please be advised that all international placement requests will require additional verification checks and are subject to approval at the discretion of the Associate Dean (Academic).
Here are some tips to self-sourcing your placement:
- Research organisations that you aspire to work with when you graduate and connect with alumni from your program on LinkedIn.
- Take advantage of the career development resources available on the EAIT Employability website to help you write your application and prepare for interviews.
- Complete UQ My Career Advisor program
- Utilise EAIT’s free resume feedback tool – VMock
- Apply to the host organisations you've identified, long before you plan to enrol in a WIL placement course.
- Some organisations:
– Advertise student employment, vacation work or scholarships
– Have a structured industry placement program in place
– May be interested in hosting a student but not actively advertising positions.
Potential host organisations
Research organisations with which you'd like to undertake your placement or that you aspire to work with when you graduate. Types of organisations that might interest you:
- Consultancies
- Non-profit or non-government organisations
- Government – local council, state departments, federal agencies
- Private companies and practices
- Research facilities – e.g. CSIRO or other Universities
Information sessions for ADP students interested in the Industry Placement elective are held twice a year in April and September.

If you're having trouble identifying organisations to approach or need some guidance to align with your values or career goals, contact the Course Coordinator, Stephanie Wyeth.
4. Apply to enrol
To apply for enrolment in ADPS3300 or ADPS7300 you must first register your intention to enrol via InPlace. (Refer Step 2 if you haven’t completed this step for the semester you intend to enrol in)
You’ll need to complete an ADP self-sourced placement application form with input from your supervisor at your host organisation. You can download the form from the Shared Documents Tab via InPlace.
- If you will be employed for placement use the ADP_Self-sourced placement application_Paid placement form (which also includes a WIL Acknowledgement form)
- If you will be unpaid for placement use the ADP_Self-sourced placement application_Unpaid placement form
Please do not use the Unpaid Work Experience form. This is not for ADPS3300/7300.
Then, submit your completed application by the submission deadline via the InPlace portal –Self placement submission for ADP. (The Unpaid Work Experience portal which may also be visible is not for ADPS3300/7300 applications.)
Enrolment semester | Self placements open | Self placements close |
Semester 1 | 1 November (previous year) | 31 January |
Semester 2 | 1 April | 30 June |
Summer semester | 1 September | 31 October |
We'll assess your application and refer it to the Course Coordinator for approval.
Once it's approved, you'll receive an email confirmation from EAIT Employability.
There may be a delay in this occurring while we finalise your placement paperwork.
5. Complete your pre-placement requirements
Before you can enrol in your WIL placement course, you'll need to satisfy all relevant pre-placement requirements.
Mandatory requirements
Prior to commencing placement, students must complete a series of online pre-placement modules. These modules are a hurdle to successfully completing the course and completion is reported to the course coordinator. A link to these modules is available on your application form. These modules will also be emailed to you once your industry capstone project has been confirmed.
Other requirements
You may also be required to:
Provide proof of your immunisations (if your host organisation has mandatory requirements)
Register your travel details through either the EAIT Domestic Travel Form or EAIT International Travel Form (if your placement requires you to travel away from your normal residence during the semester)
Obtain a Blue Card (if your placement involves working with children)
Provide evidence of a criminal history check (if required by your host organisation.)
Once your WIL placement is confirmed, you'll be advised if you must satisfy any other requirements.
6. Enrol and attend your orientation
When we've confirmed your placement in InPlace and you've satisfied all your pre-placement requirements, we'll give you permission to enrol in your WIL placement course on mySI-net.
For most courses, you'll attend a mandatory orientation session before you can commence your placement.
Check your timetable in mySI-net and watch for announcements on your course's Blackboard site (login required.)
