Commenced Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) prior to 2018

Students should follow the official course list from the year they entered their program but may choose to follow the official course list from a later year if they wish.

Course discontinuations may mean that students are unable to follow a previously published course list.

In this case transition arrangements will be put in place.

If your circumstances are not covered in the transition arrangements below then please seek advice from the EAIT Faculty office.

Students who commenced BE(Hons) in Mining Engineering or Mining & Geotechnical Engineering prior to 2018

  • MINE2123 (Structural Mechanics for Mining) will be discontinued from 2020. Students who have not completed MINE2123 must complete MINE2107 (Mining Data Analytics) instead. See full transition and study plan information through the link on the 2019 course list.
  • MINE4121 (Mine Management) has been discontinued from 2018. Students who have not completed MINE4121 must complete ENGG4900 (Professional Practice and the Business Environment) instead.

Students who commenced BE(Hons) in Software Engineering prior to 2018

ENGG2800 (Team Project I) and ENGG3800 (Team Project II) have been replaced in the BE(Hons)(Software Engineering) list by DECO3800 (Design Computing Studio 3 - Proposal) and DECO3801 (Design Computing Studio 3 - Build). Students who commenced the BE(Hons)(Software Engineering) prior to 2018 may choose to follow the old course list or the new course list or a combination as follows:

  • Students must complete at least one of ENGG2800 or DECO3800
  • Students must complete at least one of ENGG3800 or DECO3801 or ENGG4810

Students who commenced the BE(Hons) in Software Engineering from 2018 or later must complete DECO3800 and DECO3801.

Changing from the Bachelor of Engineering to Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (commenced pre-2015)

From 1 January 2015, the Bachelor of Engineering program was renamed Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), or BE(Hons), in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Students who have been enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering program or a Bachelor of Engineering dual program have the following options:

  1. To complete the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering dual program they are currently undertaking; OR
  2. To request to change into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) dual program.

If you choose to change into the BE(Hons) or a BE(Hons) dual program, you will be able to submit a Program Change Request through mySI-net following the release of end-of-semester results. If you have already met the academic requirements for the BE, you will not be permitted to change to the BE(Hons). Please note that strict deadlines apply for submission of program change requests.

If you are enrolled in a BE dual program and want to drop the dual component and complete the single BE program you have the following options:

  1. Submit a Program Change Request through mySI-net to change into the BE(Hons) program
  2. Send an email request to enquiries@eait.uq.edu.au requesting to change from the BE dual program to the BE program. You will be advised by the Faculty if further action is required of you.

If you choose to stay in the BE program, you should follow the program requirements for the year that you initially commenced the BE dual program. If you change to the BE(Hons) program, you will follow the requirements for the year that you have changed programs.

Note that if you opt to change into a BE(Hons) program, you will not be able to change back to a BE program in a future semester.

Credit: Transfer of units and transfer of grades from previously attempted courses will be considered and assessed by the EAIT Faculty based on the BE(Hons) program rules. You will be advised of the outcome to your student email.

International students should submit program change requests as soon as possible when the facility opens as new COEs will need to be issued.

Before you decide whether to change your program, be aware that in the new program:

  1. You will be required to complete the BE(Hons) or dual program under the rules and requirements for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). For more information, click here.
This requirement particularly relates to restrictions on the choice of electives and courses not on the program course list.
  2. You will be awarded a class of honours according to the increased cut-offs introduced from January 1, 2015.

For the purposes of the award of a class of honours, all attempts at all courses (ie, including failing grades) which count towards the program at UQ, or would have counted if passed, will be included in the calculation of the class of honours in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program

Students who opt to remain in the current BE or BE dual program will be awarded a class of honours according to the previous cut-offs. For more information, see Transition Arrangements here.

  1. Students completing majors, extended majors, dual majors, major+minor combinations that have been discontinued (eg. Electrical and Aerospace Engineering) must remain in the current BE program as those plans are not available in the BE(Hons) programs.
  2. Students in the BE and BE dual programs in Chemical Engineering should note that the new dual majors in Chemical and Biological Engineering and Chemical and Environmental Engineering are available in the BE(Hons) and BE(Hons) dual programs only.
