Calculating weighted GPA
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (BE (Hons))
From 2012, Bachelor of Engineering honours levels are based on the weighted GPA (WGPA) over all attempts at all courses undertaken at UQ that count towards the BE or BE(Hons). Grades are weighted by the unit value and the year level* of the course.
Only courses that contribute to the BE or BE(Hons) requirement of the dual degree count towards honours in the BE or BE(Hons). The underlying principle is that honours are awarded for performance in Engineering. This practice is also consistent with the methodology used for awarding University Medals.
All courses undertaken at the university which count towards the BE or BE(Hons) or which would have counted if passed are counted towards the WGPA. Courses attempted (passed or failed) in another program, then repeated in or credited towards the BE or BE(Hons) program will have all attempts of that course included in the WGPA calculations for the BE or BE(Hons).
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Master of Engineering
Honours levels are based on the weighted GPA over all attempts at all courses undertaken at UQ that count towards the BE/ME or BE(Hons)/ME. Grades are weighted by the unit value and the year level* of the course.
*year level means:
- (a) the first digit in the course code where that digit is 1, 2, 3 or 4; or
- (b) 4 when the first digit in the course code is a 6; or
- (c) 5 when the first digit in the course code is a 7.

Transition arrangements
For students who commenced the BE or BE dual program prior to 2015 and are currently enrolled in the BE or BE dual program, honours will be calculated based on WGPA using the following cut-offs.
Please note that for students who commenced prior to 2015 but transferred to the BE(Hons) or BE(Hons) dual program, the 2015 BE(Hons) cut-offs will apply. Note that neither the cumulative GPA nor the WGPA appears on official academic transcripts.
