EAIT Community Practice

20 Jul 2021

The inaugural Educational Research & Innovation @ EAIT Community of Practice (ERI@EAIT CoP), coordinated by Melanie Fleming (Educational Researcher, Learning Enhancement Team, EAIT) met on the 20th of July 2021.

20 people attended and discussed the potential for collaborating on Teaching Innovation Grants (TIG) as well as educational research more broadly. A Q&A was held with Dom McGrath from IT@LI on the timelines and application process for TIGs. Participants discussed potential project ideas and collaborators. The session ended with a discussion of the nature of T&L research: moving through the stages of informed practitioner; through to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL); and educational research. We briefly discussed the features of research from practice-based to more theoretically-based and critiqued a framework for moving through these stages. The group decided to meet up to 10 times a year and planned their next meeting for August. This meeting would include further refinement and discussion of TIG proposals that had proceeded through the EOI stage.
