Swathe of scholarships available to engineering students

Thousands of dollars' worth of scholarships are currently open to UQ engineering students, offering huge potential to improve lives of students and enrich their employability.

There are currently more than 24 categories of scholarships open for applications, with 51 individual scholarships available, including 22 scholarships generously funded by Rio Tinto.

The full list of scholarships that are open in April 2019. Below is a selection of the scholarships that are currently available:

  • Alumina Quality Workshop Inc Scholarship
  • Eligibility: Final year students in the relevant engineering specialisations or the relevant science specialisations in an approved engineering or science program. You would be graduating in 2019.
  • Value: $10,000

  • Anglo American Metallurgical Coal Scholarship for Engineering
    • Eligibility: Second-year students studying in an approved program. For 2019 as per the scholarship rules Anglo American Metallurgical Coal will accept applications from students studying in a number of relevant fields of engineering.     • Value: $12,500 per year for 3 years

  • Keith & Annette Bennett Engineering Scholarship at St John’s College
    • Eligibility: Any student studying engineering in an approved program and a current resident of St John’s College, The University of Queensland. 
    • Value: Approx. $6,300 per year for 3 years

  • Boeing Aerospace Engineering Scholarship
    • Eligibility: Second or third-year students studying any field of engineering in the electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or software engineering disciplines in an approved program. 
    • Value: $6,000

  • Bernard & Daphne Cornish Engineering Scholarship
    • Eligibility: Second, third, fourth or fifth-year students studying any field of engineering. Must have completed one year of study towards an approved program.
    • Value: Approx. $6,700

  • ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholarship for Engineering
    • Eligibility: Second-year students studying in any field of engineering in an approved program. Preference for students studying chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or mechatronic engineering.
    • Value: $5,000

  • Genevieve Greig Memorial Scholarship for Women in Engineering
    • Eligibility: Second-year female students studying in the chemical engineering discipline in an approved program.
    • Value: Approx. $5,760 per year for 3 years

  • L3 Micreo Scholarship in Electrical Engineering
    • Eligibility: Third year students studying in the electrical engineering discipline currently studying (or planning to study) COMS4103, COMS4104 or ELEC3100.
    • Value: $6,000 per year for 2 years

  • Newcrest Mining Engineering Scholarship 
    • Eligibility: Second-year students currently studying engineering in an approved program. Please visit the scholarship web page for Newcrest Mining for the full list of disciplines areas.
    • Value: $10,000 per year for 3 years

  • Rio Tinto Excellence Scholarship
    • Eligibility: Second or third-year students currently studying an approved engineering or science program. Please visit the scholarship web page for Rio Tinto for the full list of discipline areas. There are 22 scholarships available from Rio Tinto in 2019 across the areas of academic excellence, women in engineering, promoting diversity with a preference for international students and scholarships for Indigenous Australians.
    • Value: $10,000 - $20,000.

  • John Simmons Student Mobility Fund 
    • Eligibility: To support mechanical engineering students to support interstate or overseas curricular activities. 
    • Value: $500-$1,500

  • RJ ‘Gus Wiles Chemical Engineering Scholarship for Overseas Study 
    • Eligibility: Students approved for UQ overseas exchange for semester 2, 2019 studying in any field of engineering in the chemical engineering discipline.
    • Value: $5,000
    • Applications close 1 May 2019

  • UQ Women in Action Fund 
    • Eligibility: To support female students studying Engineering /Design/ Information Technology to engage in community and industry-based experiences via study tours, student exchange, and short-term professional and personal development experiences. There are 5 scholarships available in 2019 for this fund. 
    • Value: $1,000
