With a passion for the energy sector and a love for mechanical engineering, Oscar Carr graduated with first class honours and a master’s degree from the University of Queensland, last week.
With four years of study under his belt, Oscar has already secured full time employment, after starting an internship at Shell QGC last year.
“I will be working in Gladstone for Shell QGC as a Rotating Equipment Mechanical Engineer,” he said.
“I want to work in passionate and talented teams who are tackling the big picture problems.”
Oscar has always held an interest in maths and physics in high school and in his first year of studying engineering at UQ he enjoyed the mechanical subjects the most, which led him to major in Mechanical Engineering.
Oscar was the valedictorian at his graduation ceremony after he was nominated for his involvement and dedication to Mechanical Engineering Student Society and for the help and support he offered his peers.
He spent two years working as a student leader at UQ and spent time tutoring first and second year dynamic courses.
“I am passionate about helping younger students learn to enjoy and do better at the principal engineering subject,” he said.
“The highlight of my time at UQ has been my time serving on the Mechanical Engineering Student Society,” he said.
“Serving first as treasurer in 2017 and later as president in 2018 I had the opportunity to facilitate more than 40 events.”
Moving forward Oscar said he is excited to seize the opportunities that come his way.
“I am excited to learn as much as I can and travel internationally with work.”
