Helping young women transition from high school into university

What if an app — designed by students just like you — could guide you through your first year at university?

BoostHer is an innovative onboarding app developed by the Women in Computing (WiC) Student Leaders at The University of Queensland. Designed to bridge the gap between high school and university, the app equips future students — particularly women in male-dominated fields like Computer Science and IT — with essential information for a seamless transition to UQ.

Led by Kellie King, designed by Jodie Chellew and developed by Aria Yuan, with support by a dedicated team of students and staff, the project began with brainstorming sessions to identify common challenges faced by first-year students. The team collaborated with Mick Badran, a cloud architect and consultant, to develop the app following Apple and Google guidelines.

The beta version of BoostHer was launched during UQ Open Day 2024 at the EAIT Digital Lane, where visitors had the opportunity to explore the app and provide valuable feedback to the developers. With these insights, a new generation of WiC Student Leaders is already preparing for the next phase — BoostHer 2.0.
