Degree: Engineering Honours (Mechanical and Aerospace)

What do you love most about your degree?

My first interest in space came from meeting Australian astronaut Andy Thomas at the opening of Adelaide airport’s new international terminal. Then in high school, through a discovered love of physics and popular sci-fi. I wanted to make those crafts a reality.

Fluid Mechanics was a highlight of mine. been given  an introduction to hypersonics, with the aircraft and engines needing to reach those speeds, cemented by an aspiration to pursue a career in high-speed aeronautics.

The best piece of advice I could give someone considering studying at UQ is…

My advice would be to not let fear of your learning difficulties prevent you from pursuing your dream. The large amount of resources and learning aids UQ has available has allowed me to not be slowed down by my dyslexia but benefit from a different way of thinking.

Tell us about any clubs or societies you are a member of

I’ve been an active member of the indoor volleyball community for many years, playing for UQ while I have studied. I’ve also had the privilege to represent Australia and Queensland in both national and overseas tournaments.
