Who or what made you choose to study this?

I have had a keen interest in all things technical from a young age and I have always enjoyed maths and science, so engineering was a natural choice for me. I chose to major in Electrical engineering specifically because I believe a career in that field presents both exciting challenges and immense opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to our transition to a cleaner, more reliable and more affordable energy supply.

Tell us about any internships you have taken part in.

I completed an engineering internship at Energex/Energy Queensland, which is responsible for the distribution of electricity. I was part of the Protection team for South East Queensland, where I got to issue relay settings, conduct grading studies and calculate the thermal limits of feeders. It was an amazing opportunity to see how a well-oiled engineering team functions and to ask questions from people who are experts in their fields.

The previous year, I completed another internship at Powerlink Queensland, this time in the transmission line design team. Here, I received invaluable exposure to a wide range of software tools and processes. I got to see, first-hand, the amount of work that goes into keeping our lights on.
