What do you love most about your degree?

I love seeing how the content I am learning throughout my courses is used in industry. This is
particularly evident during internship and exchange opportunities.

Tell us about any internships that you’ve participated in

I have recently completed an internship with Whitehaven coal where I worked with autonomous
trucks that are set to be the future of mining engineering over the next decade. I enjoyed this opportunity as it was my first time seeing machines of scale. I was also fascinated by the technology that made autonomous trucks possible and by developing ideas for improvements that could increase productivity.

Prior to that, I received a grant to study engineering in Japan for three weeks where I studied advanced manufacturing. During this short-term exchange I gained an insight into hydrogen energy which may provide a source of green energy in the future as we move towards carbon neutrality. This was an amazing opportunity where not only did I get to travel, but I was also able to see new cutting-edge technology.

I received my first internship opportunity as a result of meeting an electronics company at the EUS careers fair. I worked with this company for almost 12 months where I learnt about the stages of electronics manufacturing and design. This experience gave me an appreciation for computer systems and has allowed me to deeply engage with coursework.
