Engineering (Honours)
(Chemical and Environmental)

Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical and Environmental)

Who or what made you choose to study this?

In high school, I had a deep fascination with the mathematical world, but at the same time, my curiosity often made me wonder why things were in this universe. As I had a passion for maths and science, I was prompted to study in the field of engineering. Various factors including climate change and the idea of a more sustainable world encouraged me to specialise in chemicals and major in the environment.

What do you love most about your degree?

Honestly, I love meeting new people and being able to meet those who share the same passion as I am indescribable. Joining events from various engineering clubs and societies to meeting new people in my tutorials and laboratory pracs have all been worthwhile throughout my degree. Also being able to get expert advice from leading researchers and professors at UQ, is something I’m always in awe about. I’m also very interested in the problem-solving aspect of many of my classes which always involve either maths or science, and that’s what drew me in.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I hope to be able to find a job in the degree that I’m studying in and to be able to have a more directional focus on where I want to go than I do now. As I’ve mentioned before, I have been largely influenced by the idea of sustainability and a greener world, and as such, I’ve looked towards a company called Aurecon which I believe shares my values, and just having connections with the University has helped me expand my perception of the vastness of the engineering world.
