Engineering (Honours)
(Electrical and Computer)

Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Master of Engineering (Electrical)

Who or what made you choose to study this?

My interest in engineering stemmed from the time in high school when I was part of the robotics team. Designing, building and testing a robot from scratch was essence of engineering, and I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the team. I found great interest in making solutions using knowledge, which is what I feel engineering is truly about. I chose to study electrical engineering as I really enjoyed the electrical and computer science courses I did in my first year of engineering, including ENGG1300, CSSE1001 and CSSE2010.

What do you love most about your degree?

I love being able to do assignments in which I can see myself making progress. The satisfaction I receive when my one line of code finally works, or the firefighting vehicle we made in ENGG1100 aims correctly, is truly unmatched. It shows me how far my knowledge has come, and how my problem-solving skills are improving throughout the degree.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?

I know this sounds like the simplest advice, but stay on top of your work. Ensure you have watched all the lectures for that week, and attempt to do tutorial questions as well. It makes it so much easier when you’re on task, because catching up on lectures nearing assessment time is a difficult task, coming from first-hand experience.
