I love that what I’m learning now is providing me the knowledge and skills I need to go into industry and enact the positive and necessary environmental changes I’ve always wanted to see.

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical and Environmental) / Master of Engineering

Who or what made you choose to study this?

I first became interested in Engineering around year 11, but I wasn’t sure which major I wanted to pursue when I graduated. I took a couple years off from study after completing my IB diploma, during which time I developed a passion for sustainability and environmental issues. I combined my two major academic interests and chose Chem/Enviro engineering!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?

UQ has a ton of amazing clubs and activities to join – some academic and some not! Joining one (or a few) is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and make connections both within and outside of your own degree program.

What’s been your favourite course so far and why?

ENGG1600, Introduction to Research Practices – The Big Issues. I found this course to be very stimulating and engaging in a different way than all of my other courses, since I got to work directly with a reasearch centre at UQ and see first-hand what research in engineering involves. It was also a great class dynamic, and presented me with opportunities in my first year that I might not have otherwise seen until my 3rd or 4th year of study.
