Why did you choose to study at UQ?

I chose to study at UQ because of the variety and flexibility of programs offered, which allowed me to tailor my studies to better suit my interests. The campus is also gorgeous and easy to get to, which was a bonus for me.

Why did you choose to study your discipline?

After starting 2 different degrees in healthcare, I knew that I wanted to pursue something that would allow me to help people but I soon realised I preferred the ‘behind the scenes’ work over the more frontline areas I had originally looked into. After doing some research and exploring different career options, I stumbled upon biomedical engineering which gives me the option to be involved in the development and research of materials, devices and processes to deliver therapeutics. I had never considered engineering before, but the more I looked into it, the more I felt it was the perfect fit for me- which has just been solidified throughout my first year of study.

What advice do you have for prospective students interested in studying engineering, architecture, computer science and/or information technology at UQ?

If you haven’t 100% made up your mind yet definitely reach out and talk to someone about your options, there’s so much more to engineering than I originally thought and I’m so glad I looked into it further. Once you have started studying I recommend getting involved and don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, UQ offers so many great opportunities and it’s such a supportive community.
