Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Master of Engineering
In high school, I loved maths and problem-solving, but I had no idea what career would suit me. When engineering came up on online career tools, I brushed it off because at the time, I didn’t know any female engineers and couldn’t picture myself in the field. That changed when I attended a Women in Engineering talk at my school, which cleared any misconceptions I had, and I realised that a career in engineering could open countless doors.
Looking back, it’s disappointing that more female students aren’t openly encouraged to explore STEM pathways. Now that I’m in a bigger city, interacting with a wider variety of people, I’ve learnt about an even broader range of unique STEM fields that I wish more people, especially in smaller communities, knew about.
I hope that the Mobile Makerspace can help change that by giving students hands-on experiences, showing them just how many exciting opportunities STEM can lead to.
Inspire future STEM professionals across regional and remote Queensland through an immersive education experience
The UQ Mobile Makerspace initiative aims to bridge the gap for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students outside major city centres. It also supports hands-on creativity and applied problem-solving, encouraging students to explore a wide range of disciplines, from science, technology and engineering through to architecture, design, planning and other fields that benefit from innovative and interdisciplinary thinking.
