Current Student: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
I went to a small public high school in Northern NSW, where STEM resources and programs were very limited. It took me a long time to even consider engineering as an option, because it wasn’t something I had any exposure to growing up.
At schools like mine, very few students went on to university, and I think programs like the Mobile Makerspace could make a real difference for students who are on the fence or who feel constrained by their socioeconomic or geographical circumstances. Being able to try hands-on projects and see how what we learn in class connects to real careers would make it much easier for students like me to imagine themselves in STEM and realise that university is actually within reach for anyone.
Inspire future STEM professionals across regional and remote Queensland through an immersive education experience
The UQ Mobile Makerspace initiative aims to bridge the gap for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students outside major city centres. It also supports hands-on creativity and applied problem-solving, encouraging students to explore a wide range of disciplines, from science, technology and engineering through to architecture, design, planning and other fields that benefit from innovative and interdisciplinary thinking.
