Current Student - Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Master of Engineering

Growing up and studying in regional Queensland, access to STEM opportunities was often limited, with existing programs feeling constrained and under-supported. Although I developed an interest in STEM early in high school, it sometimes felt like my passion could only be fully realised through future university studies, as there were few local avenues for hands-on involvement.

The Mobile Makerspace represents an incredible opportunity to bridge that gap by bringing engaging, practical STEM experiences directly to students who might otherwise miss out. Hands-on workshops like these can spark curiosity, showcase what’s possible, and inspire students to pursue their interests with confidence.

Had I experienced something like the Mobile Makerspace earlier in my schooling, I believe it could have opened my eyes sooner to the range of possibilities within STEM and encouraged me to begin exploring and creating long before university.

Inspire future STEM professionals across regional and remote Queensland through an immersive education experience

The UQ Mobile Makerspace initiative aims to bridge the gap for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students outside major city centres. It also supports hands-on creativity and applied problem-solving, encouraging students to explore a wide range of disciplines, from science, technology and engineering through to architecture, design, planning and other fields that benefit from innovative and interdisciplinary thinking.
