Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical and Aerospace) / Master of Engineering

Who or what made you choose to study this?

I've always been deeply interested in aerospace. Regularly taking flights as a kid, being exposed to rocketry and remote aviation (drones) at school, and being encouraged to stay curious, all played a role in steering me toward engineering. As a result, I also developed a strong academic foundation in STEM subjects, which further reinforced my passion for the field. They say to pursue something you love and something you're good at – and so engineering was the perfect fit.

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

I chose UQ because it combined academic excellence with great facilities and resources. Talking to a student ambassador at open day convinced me that studying at UQ was the right thing for me. Also, the engineering integrated Masters course was highly attractive for me as it offered quality education and outstanding industry connections, all within a 5-year timeframe.

What do you love most about your degree?

I love how the courses in my degree put an emphasis on teamwork. Working with like-minded people to develop solutions is so rewarding both personally and professionally. Dealing with conflict, managing groups, and showing leadership are highly desirable skills for having a successful career in engineering, and I believe my degree gives me opportunities to improve an all these things and more.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?

Talk to as many people as possible. Whether it be lecturers, professors, tutors, other students, or ambassadors and support staff, everyone is there to help. There’s so many people at UQ, and you can learn so much just by having a chat or asking questions.
