Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical Engineering) / Biomedical Engineering
Who or what made you choose to study this?
The subjects I completed at school made me interested in pursuing an engineering degree, as well as STEM workshops when I was younger. I always enjoyed building things and using my hands when I was younger, particularly LEGO.
Why did you choose to study at UQ?
My sister went to UQ, and I loved the look of the university. I was also interested in the opportunities to take my study overseas with the exchange program as I had completed an exchange during high school and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I knew that UQ offered many different opportunities to engineering students, particularly women in engineering, which was part of the allure for me.
What do you love most about your degree?
I love the opportunity to solve problems, both individually and in groups. It is amazing to see how many different applications of engineering there are. I am also amazed at how broad the workplace is and am excited to see where my degree can take me next year.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?
My biggest piece of advice would be to take advantage of all the opportunities offered at university. Whether it be attending events with the societies offered within your faculty or simply turning up to lectures, get involved in it all. Don’t become one of those students that barely shows up to university. This takes away from the university experience and makes it much harder to meet new friends that will help you through your degree.
