Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical) / Bachelor of Computer Science

Who or what made you choose to study this?

Throughout high school, I participated in the Future Problem-Solving program, which involved brainstorming innovative solutions to theoretical issues of the future. This sparked my love of problem solving, which alongside my interest in maths and science had me considering a future as an engineer.
I knew I wanted to study something that would enable me to work in a career where I could make a positive impact on the community and do something that I feel could be helpful to society. I chose to study electrical engineering and computer science as the field is dynamic and ever-changing, providing boundless opportunities to explore and implement new technologies.

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

I chose to study at UQ because it is a highly ranked university with a rich history in educating students, so I felt I would have access to many opportunities that would help me develop academically and professionally, and aid in my personal growth. Also, when I was in high school our careers officer organised a campus tour, in which I could see myself attending UQ.

What do you love most about your degree?

I love being able to see how the theoretical parts of the courses, can be applied to the practical real-world aspects. It’s rewarding to see how our studies might be used in our future careers.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?

My best piece of advice would be to take advantage of all the opportunities UQ presents. There are so many societies and events that you can participate in and it’s a great way to meet new people. UQ offers so many ways to develop both professionally and personally, so take every opportunity that is presented to you.
