Engineering (Honours)
(Mechanical / Aerospace)

Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical and Aerospace)

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

Working in aerospace has long been a dream of mine, and UQ has one of the most highly regarded Aero programs in the country. I knew of the pedigree of the program here from the HyShot program, testing scramjets in the early 2000’s, and wanted to be a part of that.

What’s been your favourite course so far and why?

MECH3410 – Fluid Mechanics. Prof. Vince Wheatley and the other teaching staff made a course about fluid mechanics - a dry and very technical subject- far more fun. Engaging in practical work and rewarding contact hours made for a very challenging but ultimately rewarding course.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?

Engage in extracurricular activities. In my first year, I had just moved to Brisbane from interstate and had a miserable time in my first 6 months, just studying and getting used to Brisbane. In my 2nd year, I joined UQ Space and UQ Formula SAE (UQ Racing) in addition to other clubs and the experience couldn’t be more different. I had loads of people who were doing the same degrees as I was, and that helped both socially and academically.
