Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechatronic)

Who or what made you choose to study this?

In high school, physics was one of my favourite subjects but I had no idea what I wanted to study at university. It was actually my physics teacher who suggested I study engineering as it heavily involves physics but is not the traditional science path. After doing some research I decided to specialise in mechatronics as I loved the practical applications of this career path and the ability to enjoy a mix of both mechanical and electrical courses.

What do you love most about your degree?

The thing I love most about my degree is the community amongst both peers and faculty members. Engineering can be extremely difficult but the camaraderie within the engineering community provides invaluable support during challenging times. It fosters a collaborative environment where peers and faculty members come together to overcome obstacles, share knowledge, and inspire each other to reach new heights of achievement.

Have you participated in any internships/work? If so tell us a bit about it, what did you enjoy most about the experience?

This past Summer I completed an internship at BHP in a Brisbane-based project team where I worked on automating dozers for use in high-risk environments on mine sites. This was my first experience working in the industry and I thoroughly enjoyed learning how a business’ priority for safety can drive innovation. Further, I also enjoyed working with machines of that scale.
