What do you love most about your degree?

There is always a UQ society that can help you with your career or social life. The lecturers give you enough opportunity to converse with them. In general, UQ provides plenty of oppurtunities outside of classes to excel in life. Additionally, the majority of people I’ve met never grew up in Cairns, I enjoy telling them about home life as Brisbane offers different luxuries to Cairns, consequently, I’ve made a lot more friends and have definitely stepped out of my comfort zone.

What’s been your favourite course so far and why?

MECH2300 – I have a unique interest in the analysis of structures. When I took the course, we were given an integrated assignment which was an assignment that was different to any other assignments in any course. The assignment had us use our skills in structure and material analysis by designing a plane wing, the assignment was vague with a specific way of doing your work, although there was a correct answer and method, it allowed us to do any working out if it was justified. This made me more confident in my work as I was strong in backing myself.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?

Try and expose yourself to the outside curricular activities (clubs/societies). Some societies are there to help your career and provide oppurtunities that lectures don’t, and there are ones purely based on interest and fun. Joining such clubs helps you grow as a person.
