Researcher biography

Professor Michael Brünig is Head of School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at The University of Queensland.

Professor Michael Brünig is a data innovation expert with over 20 years' experience in research and development across industry, government and academia over three continents. He is currently the Head of School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at The University of Queensland (UQ). Professor Brünig is a versatile Academic Leader who has previously led the UQ Business School.

Before joining UQ, Professor Brünig worked with Australia's most widely known science research and translation hub, CSIRO. As an executive manager with the organisation, he led an initiative to establish a National Research Flagship on Digital Productivity and later guided the business through a merger to create Data61, a national research powerhouse focusing on data innovation. Professor Brünig started his career in research and development in the automotive industry in Germany and the United States.

Professor Brünig has published a book, written more than 50 papers in both German and English and has published in popular media. His personal research interests include sensing, data analytics and robotics.
