Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechatronics) / Computer Science

Who or what made you choose to study this?

I wanted to choose this pathway since Year 8. The ability to build an idea from the ground up was always something that excited me, fuelling my curiosity. This degree combination gives the skillset to ideate, validate, implemented and prototype in various domains from software systems to hardware projects

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

Because UQ had a lot of networking opportunities with their student societies and networks

What are your favourite facilities and resources available to you at UQ?

Libraries with their USB-C Plug N’ Plug Setups and the Coaches at Student Central

Have you been able to have practical experiences within your degree (e.g. work experience, industry projects etc.)? If so, please provide some highlights.

I have completed a group project in my first year and currently undertaking a second-year mechatronics group project. I have also been an engineering mentor for years 10-12 for SPARK Engineering Camp

What’s been your favourite course so far and why?

METR2800 – Because everyone chooses to be there and work together to build a robot that completes the set task

Highlights of your past year at UQ

Candlelight Concerts and Market Days

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?

Ask yourself what you want to get out of university besides the paper. Do you want to work in clubs to build something? Do you want to build a network of people? Do you want to go on memorable experiences like tours and exchanges? Research those interests of yours and see if UQ aligns with them.

Have you participated in any internships / work? If so tell us a bit about it, what did you enjoy most about the experience?

Not yet, but the internship application is like a muscle that grows with time, you learn how to make better applications and slowly you’ll transition through the process to interviews rounds and hopefully offers at the end

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I want to work on my own business or project, building something that contributes to the betterment of society and helps people in the respective domain of the product.

Are you a member of any student societies / participate in extra curricular activities? Tell us a bit about it.

I’m a member of UQIES, UQ VENTURES, UQCS. These 3 align with my building mindset and help foster an environment of like-minded students that can I can learn from.
