Master of Engineering

Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)/Master of Engineering

Who or what made you choose to study this?

Coming out of high school, I didn’t really have a clear life path or idea of what I wanted to do after I graduated, and so, as many do, I chose to study engineering as I loved maths and science in school. I still wasn’t sure when I started what type of engineering I wanted to do, so I chose a flexible first year, and after getting a taste for the different disciplines I decided electrical was the one for me. Looking back, I’m definitely happy I chose to go down this path!

How did you find out about UQ?

Going to high school in Brisbane I’ve always been aware of UQ. But I think I probably found out most of the info about the uni and my degree through open days and online.

Did you attend any events at UQ in the lead up to choosing to come here? If so please tell us what.

I attended open day which was very fun, but one UQ program that sticks out was a Ventures program I did in year 9. Some Ventures staff came to our school and ran a program for a few weeks after school, and it really was a great introduction to entrepreneurship and definitely made me interested in the space and in UQ going forward.

What kinds of things did you want to know when you were choosing what university to go to?

One big thing was knowing about what sort of extracurricular opportunities they offered. UQ has so many great clubs, societies, programs and experiences, both in relation to what you’re studying and also just in general. There’s so much to try and experience and I think that is something I really appreciate about UQ.

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

Firstly, UQ has such a pretty campus that I’ve always loved and that just makes it a lovely place to be. Secondly, it has the highest rated and most prestigious engineering program in Queensland, and that definitely drew me to study here. It also has so many great extra-curricular opportunities both related to the degree and outside of the degree which was another important factor.
