Dr Mark Jacobs Deputy Director-General Science Division Department of the Environment, Tourism Science and Innovation

Mark leads the Science Division, within the Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation. Mark oversees the provision of scientific and technical advice and services to government agencies on environmental and natural resource matters. This advice underpins agency decision making and legislative responsibilities. The Division also works closely with the Queensland Chief Scientist to foster the science and research base in Queensland.
Mark has over 20 years’ experience in government, leading and managing high performing teams, and developing and implementing science and innovation policies, strategies, and programs. Before joining government, Mark worked as a research scientist, both locally and internationally and has maintained strong active industry, university and international networks.
Mark has a PhD in science from The University of Queensland and a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management.
