Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical and Biomedical) / Master of Engineering
Who or what made you choose to study this?
I've always been passionate about health, but I also really liked math and science. Biomedical engineering allows me to merge these interests, applying technical and mathematical principles to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.
What do you love most about your degree?
Learning about new discoveries and innovations in the space of engineering and the development of technology has truly been the highlight of my degree. Seeing how the theory that we’ve learnt is being applied in everyday engineering practices is very interesting.
What’s been your favourite course so far and why?
ENGG1100. I regard this first-year engineering project course still the best course I’ve done whilst at university. The way it threw you in the deep end and allowed you to showcase your skills as a future engineer was what appealed to me, given I had no background in engineering or coding from high school. Being able to make a physical prototype which you had the opportunity to test was also very fun.
Finally, connecting with other first-year students was a highlight of the course, as many of the friendships I formed back then have lasted to this day.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?
I would advise to new students to definitely do their research into the clubs/societies that appeal to their interest and the various extracurricular activities throughout UQ. The plethora of opportunities available at UQ is one of the key selling points to attending this university.
