Who or what made you choose to study this?

I have always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and problem-solving. Growing up, I was drawn to understanding how electrical systems work, and my curiosity led me to explore power systems, automation, and embedded systems. Engineering allows me to apply analytical thinking and creativity to solve real-world challenges, making it the perfect fit for my interests.

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

UQ’s prestigious engineering program, world-class research facilities, and strong industry connections made it my top choice. The collaborative learning environment and hands-on projects provided at UQ align perfectly with my passion for practical, real-world applications of engineering. Additionally, the opportunity to engage in student societies and ambassador programs has enriched my university experience beyond academics.

What do you love most about your degree?

I love the practical approach and problem-solving mindset that Electrical Engineering instills. Courses like power systems engineering, embedded systems, and machine learning applications have given me the opportunity to work on real-world engineering challenges. I also enjoy the teamwork and collaboration involved in large-scale engineering projects, where we integrate hardware, firmware, and software components.

What’s been your favourite course so far and why?

One of my favorite courses has been Power Systems Analysis because of its direct application in the energy industry. This course helped me understand how to design and optimize electrical networks and use simulation tools like PSSE for transmission line modeling. I also enjoyed Embedded Systems Design, where I developed microcontroller-based applications using C programming and hardware integration.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?

Take full advantage of the opportunities beyond coursework! Get involved in internships, research projects, and student societies to gain hands-on experience and build connections in the industry. UQ offers an incredible support network, so don't hesitate to ask for help, collaborate with peers, and seek mentorship.
