Business Management (Human Resources)

Degree: Bachelor of Design (Buildings & Environment) / Bachelor of  Business Management (Human Resources)

Who or what made you choose to study this?

In high school I was super interested in design and wanted to expand my skills. I have always loved learning about how cities, people and structures all interact with each other which led me to pursue the major of Buildings and Environments. My degree provides me with a variety of different aspects and perspectives of the Built Environment, including urban planning, building construction, architecture and stakeholder engagement.
Furthermore, business allows me to expand my knowledge within different fields and adopt many interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

I have spent most of my life in Brisbane, and with family studying at UQ I knew it was reputable. The campus is also super nice, with great learning environments. I also found the course structures and course opportunities to be amazing!

Have you participated in any internships / work? If so tell us a bit about it, what did you enjoy most about the experience?

Although not directly related to design, I completed a 3-month 2024-2025 Summer Vacation program with Glencore with my Human Resources side of my degree. I spent 3 months living in Collinsville in North Queensland. This was such a great opportunity for me to push my limits and try something outside of my comfort zone. It was really great to work in a different environment and a variety of people.

Currently I am working part-time with Architectus, as part of their People Advisory team as a HR/Design Student. This work has been incredibly rewarding, and I feel extremely fortunate to be able to work part-time in a space that is so relevant to my dual degree. It has been really great to be.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I hope to work within the Urban Design space, where I can apply my practical and design thinking skills to a role. Within this, my dream role would incorporate my people and interpersonal skills from my Human Resources side of my degree!
