Through our strategic partnerships worldwide, you can combine study with travel with the International Double Degree in Data Science and Informatics.

Selected students will spend at least two semesters studying at one of our global partner institutions in Germany. Gaining an invaluable global perspective and international experience, students will also graduate with formal degrees from both UQ and the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

Why complete the International Double Degree in Data Science and Informatics?

Am I eligible to apply?

  • Students enrolled in the UQ BE(Hons) (Software Engineering) or the BCompSc (as a singular or dual degree), that are on track to (and will) complete the following courses by the end of their degree:
    • MATH1051
    • MATH1052
    • STAT1201 or STAT1301 or STAT2203
    • INFS1200 or INFS2200
    • MATH2001 (recommended but not compulsory)
  • Students with a background not as above will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 5 at the conclusion of their undergraduate degree.

Entry into the International Double Degree in Data Science and Informatics will be conditional on students being admitted into, and enrolling in, the Master of Data Science (2-year duration) at UQ (commencing Semester 2 only). Accepted students must seek Faculty advice on their Master's enrolment, to ensure they are enrolling in the appropriate UQ courses to follow this double degree pathway.

How to apply

Follow the steps below to start your European study adventure! Applications for 2025 are currently under review.
Applications for 2026 will open in November 2024.

1. Explore the host University

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is one of Europe’s top universities and is ranked within the Top 20 universities globally for engineering and technology (QS Subject Ranking 2023) It is committed to excellence in research and teaching, interdisciplinary education, and promotion of promising young scientists. TUM was one of the first universities in Germany to be named a University of Excellence. TUM is located in Munich, Germany. As the capital of Bavaria, Munich is a major cultural and financial centre. Residents enjoy a very high standard of living – ranked 11th worldwide!

We recommend visiting TUM's website to do your own research, exploring the courses on offer under the Master of Science (Informatics) and reading up on their academics. You should also find out more about living in Munich, Germany.

2. Attend an information session

We will announce an info session closer to the application opening date.

3. Check your eligibility for the program

If you still have questions about the eligibility criteria listed on this page and your suitability, please email us at international@eait.uq.edu.au and include your UQ Student ID (or academic transcripts if you are studying, or have completed, your undergraduate program at another university).

4. Ensure you are enrolled in UQ’s 32 Unit (2 Year) Master of Data Science (Commencing in Semester 2)

If selected for this double degree program, you will need to successfully apply and accept your offer into the Master of Data Science (#32 units) at UQ (commencing in Semester 2). We will provide you with guidance for your enrolment into the UQ Master's program, to ensure that your first and second Semester enrolment at UQ allows you to follow this double degree pathway at TUM. Students enrolled in the 24-unit, 1.5-year format of the M Data Sc program, you may not have the flexibility to meet entry requirements to the double degree program; please contact us to further investigate your eligibility.
