Quantum information science seminar and international research careers panel

Join Professor Theodore Goodson III from the University of Michigan for a seminar exploring developments in quantum information science, followed by a panel discussion on working and studying at leading international research institutions.

Professor Goodson is an internationally recognised researcher in quantum optics, physical chemistry and advanced materials. His work spans quantum information science, sensing, photovoltaics, optoelectronics and biomedical technologies.

The event includes two sessions, and you are welcome to attend either session or both.

What to expect

10.00 am — A chemical perspective on quantum information science

Explore how quantum computing, sensing and communication technologies are changing the way complex scientific and technological challenges are approached.

Professor Goodson will discuss the development of organic and inorganic materials for quantum optical and electronic applications, including photovoltaics, light-emitting devices and quantum sensors.

This seminar may be of particular interest to students and researchers in chemistry, physics, engineering, materials science, information technology and related disciplines.

11.00 am — International research careers panel

Hear from an expert panel about the opportunities, challenges and benefits of working and studying at international research institutions.

The discussion will explore:

• Building an international research career
• Finding and securing overseas opportunities
• Developing global research collaborations
• Using international experience to support long-term career development

The panel will feature Professor Theodore Goodson III, Professor Liesl Folks, Dr Nadja Kunz and Associate Professor Evan Moore, and will be hosted by Associate Professor Rowan Gollan.

12.00 pm — Morning tea and networking

Connect with speakers and other members of the UQ research community over morning tea.
