Future Work Immersion with Stryker: Engineering medical technology

Recommended for third and fourth-year students studying Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Biomedical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering.

During this Future Work Immersion, you’ll tour Stryker’s research and development lab, learn about engineering and technology careers, and take part in a team challenge based on a real advanced manufacturing problem.

Working with other students, you’ll develop a concept for automatically tracking unique, patient-specific parts as they move through different manufacturing processes. Your team will consider how technologies such as sensors, RFID, machine vision or digital tracking systems could improve visibility, reduce errors and minimise manual handling before presenting your solution to Stryker staff.

Students interested in medical technology are encouraged to book. No previous experience in the field is required. Places are limited to 36 students, so please join the waitlist if the event is fully booked.

What to expect

During the session, you will:

• Tour Stryker’s research and development lab.
• Learn about engineering roles and career pathways in medical technology.
• Explore how patient-specific parts move through advanced manufacturing processes.
• Work in a team to design a low-intervention method of tracking parts through different production stages.
• Develop a concept, prototype or demonstration using sketches, diagrams, mock-ups or other formats.
• Present your solution to Stryker staff and receive industry feedback.

Please wear smart-casual clothing and closed-toe shoes.
