An EAIT Employability Future Work Immersion event

Join EAIT Employability for a practical workshop and industry panel delivered by the Department of Housing and Public Works.

Open to EAIT undergraduate and postgraduate students, this session will explore how buildings can be designed, adapted and retrofitted to better withstand flooding. Students will learn from experts working in disaster resilience, take part in a hands-on design activity, and hear from industry professionals about careers in the flood-resilient design space.

Future Work Immersions are practical, industry-led experiences that help students connect their studies with real-world work, meet professionals and explore career pathways.

What will the session involve?

Students will take part in an interactive workshop and guided experience exploring how buildings can be designed and adapted to better withstand flooding.

The session will be delivered alongside a public flood-resilient building design pop-up display at the State Library of Queensland.

During the session, students will take part in:

• a presentation on flood-resilient building design
• a materials demonstration showing how different materials perform during flood events
• a hands-on workshop to design a resilient upgrade using real-world scenarios
• an industry panel discussion about careers in the flood-resilient design space.

The session is designed to be interactive, practical, and accessible.

About the presenters

This session will be delivered by experts from the Department of Housing and Public Works, who work in disaster resilience and flood-resilient building design.

Students will learn how flood-resilient design principles can help reduce damage from extreme weather and support safer, more resilient communities.
