Conflict, difficult conversations, saying ‘no’ … there’s a high chance that all of those topics make you squirm. Navigating challenging situations and conversations is hard work and as a woman, something most of us try to avoid. Most women have a difficult time saying no, especially if they think someone’s feelings may be at stake or if they think they’ll not be liked. It is a socially learned coping mechanism.

Hand in hand with saying no, workplace conflict is a common and often unavoidable part of working life. Women experience greater anxiety and discomfort from conflict than men, and also have a lower tolerance for disagreement. Femininity norms suggest that women are more conflict averse, and socially conforming than men.

Join us for our next lunch and learn session where we delve into strategies for navigating difficult conversations, learning to say no and constructive conflict resolution. As Marilyn Monroe once said, “strong women don’t have attitudes, we have standards”.
