I love the practical aspect of my degree and learning about real world applications. The coding courses have definitely been my favourite courses so far.

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (electrical and software)

Who or what made you choose to study this?

In high school, my favourite and best subjects were Maths and Physics which persuaded me to choose engineering. I initially wanted to study biomedical engineering, however, after taking a flexible first year and getting a glimpse into all the different types of engineering, I settled on studying electrical and software engineering.

Tell us about any internships you've participated in

I recently completed an internship at PFi, which is an engineering company which specialises in automation projects and mechanical services. Being surrounded by a group of engineers with several years of experience was incredible and I learnt a whole lot by asking questions and completing my assigned tasks. I got to do CAD drawings for a conveyor belt system and eventually saw the system being built in the workshop by the builders, which was pretty awesome. I enjoyed learning to use software like Inventor, C-more, and RSlogix 5000 as well as meeting the other interns and making new connections.

Are you a member of any student societies or extra curricular activities?

I am currently part of UQ EWH, UQCS and hope to join UQ Space. I was previously involved in UQ Interfaculty Competitions where I played soccer with other engineering students. This year I hope to join UQ Space and gain some more practical skills and experience. I am also a volunteer at the Australian Youth Aerospace Association where I create graphics posts and help manage the organisation’s social media pages.
