Degree: Bachelor of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (Honours)
What do you love most about your degree?
I love how much my engineering degree challenges me. No two courses are the same and learning content from structures and materials to orbital mechanics has changed the way I see the world around me. Personally, I find most content difficult to understand, so I have to work really hard to figure out what’s going on – I find this to be quite rewarding and my work ethic has been better off for it! Since switching from law, I haven’t looked back. Engineering at UQ has taught me valuable technical and problem-solving skills that have already aided me in my endeavours in the real world.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?
Ask lots of questions and talk to as many different people as you can! Our campus is very social and there are so many staff and peers that are here to help. Making friends and getting advice from tutors is incredibly important – it makes the workload more bearable and enjoyable. You’re going to be collaborating with so many different people during your time at UQ, so your communication skills are going to be very useful! Talking to people about what work they do or what they’re interested in is also incredibly valuable. Engineering provides so many unique opportunities and paths that it can be difficult to discern what might best suit you. Discussing real world work and opportunities is imperative to developing yourself professionally!
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I am unsure as to what industry I would like to work in once I graduate, however I have recently declared my major to be aerospace. I have also been enjoying project management related work so ideally, I would love to be in a management position long term.
