Degree: Bachelor or Engineering/Masters of Engineering - Civil Engineering
Who or what made you choose to study this?
A change in my high school timetable left me with an empty slot, which led me to take engineering as a subject. At the time, I had little knowledge about the field and enrolled without any expectations. However, I quickly discovered a genuine passion for it. This newfound interest inspired me to pursue civil engineering at UQ. What I appreciate most about civil engineering is its tangible impact on everyday life through roads, bridges, and transportation systems; the work of civil engineers is visible everywhere.
Why did you choose to study at UQ?
I was uncertain about which engineering specialty would be the best fit for me after deciding to study engineering at university. One of the key reasons I chose UQ was because of its flexible first-year program. This program allowed me to explore different electives and discover my interests without feeling locked into a specific path immediately. Additionally, I was intrigued by the various exchange programs offered by UQ. The possibility of traveling to different places while continuing my studies was an exciting opportunity.
Are you a member of any student societies / participate in extra curricular activities? Tell us a bit about it.
I am currently a member of CESA and Skirts. I really enjoy attending the events hosted by these societies, as they allow me to meet other students and network with professionals in the industry. Additionally, I am an EAIT Student Leader! I completed this program in the second semester of last year and had a fantastic experience meeting more students from the EAIT faculty and developing my skills, particularly in leadership and mentoring.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?
My best advice for someone studying at UQ is to branch out and meet new people. This can be done through clubs and societies, and it doesn't have to be limited to your faculty's clubs, explore anything that interests you or aligns with your hobbies. Building a good network of people and creating a community around you is a fantastic way to have fun during your degree and make amazing friends.
