Control Systems

This section shows an example of a Control system designed and developed by the FWG Mechanical and Instrumentation Workshops.

This system is a chemical stimulation rig used to control reactors used in the Aerobic Process in Active Landfill Cells (APALC). The FWG Instrumentation Workshop staff designed and developed the control system and then implemented a Graphical User interface using National Instruments LabVIEW software. The mechanical components and structures were fabricated and installed by the FWG mechanical workshops.

Data Acquisition Systems

This section shows examples of Data Acquisition (DAQ) and Control systems designed and developed by the FWG Instrumentation Workshop.

This system is a Core Flooding System used to analyse core samples. The FWG Instrumentation Workshop staff designed and developed the Graphical User interface using National Instruments LabVIEW software.

This is a parcel storage cage manufactured and installed by the Heavy Engineering Workshop.

This is a Faraday Cage used to screen sensitive electronic equipment from electromagnetic interference. The cage was designed specifically to ensure it could be easily installed and removed from its location whilst also accommodating the existing infrastructure around it, such as the lighting module that extends through the roof of the cage.

This complex item is a fully configurable frame to secure a human head when scanning using a microwave source. The SLS material has ideal properties for this application.

Undergraduate Project Apparatus

This section shows examples of equipment used in 1st Year Undergraduate Engineering course projects that have been developed by the FWG Instrumentation Workshop.

The system shown in the video below is used to assess the strength of structures designed in the ENGG1200 course. Students are instructed how to install strain gauges on their support and then apply a force to test the support to its failure point. The FWG Instrumentation Workshop staff designed and developed the Graphical User interface using National Instruments LabVIEW software.
