Industry leaders, friends and alumni of The University of Queensland are invited to attend the Sydney ‘Leaders of Influence’ Series, featuring Michael (Mick) McCormack, former Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, APA Group.

Mick will deliver a thought provoking keynote titled: Against the Flow: Business success through new ideas and pragmatism.

In this keynote, Mick will speak about one of the major prevailing issues of our time: the provision of energy.  He will discuss the energy debate from the viewpoint of consumers, governments and energy providers.  He will outline the transformational changes in the development of, and attitudes towards, the provision of energy in his 35 plus years in the industry.  Linking to the topic, Mick will discuss how a relentless focus on the opportunity that lies within the challenge, and the combination of new ideas and pragmatism, paves the way for success and better outcomes for all stakeholders

About Mick McCormack

Mick was the CEO of APA Group since July 2005 and has over 35 years’ experience in the energy infrastructure sector in Australia.

From Mick’s first experience in the industry, digging holes for pipeline marker signs, he had a bold vision of what bringing more gas to market could mean for both energy users and the nation.

In his 14 years leading APA, the company’s enterprise value has grown from $2 billion to $24 billion. Mick is a recognised leader and visionary in the sector.  He is an active contributor to dialogue on energy policy and the need for increasing energy supply to bring down prices. The growth and development of APA, and the increasingly important role of gas in Australia’s energy mix, demonstrates the success of Mick’s vision and determination.

Mick supports nation-building through active personal and corporate community engagement. Under Mick’s leadership APA is deeply involved in the communities in which it operates, not only through local employment but also cultural and community development support.

In December 2018, Mick announced that he would retiring from APA sometime before 31 December 2019.
