Industry leaders, friends and alumni of The University of Queensland are invited to attend the next installment of the 'Leaders of Influence' series featuring Dr David Noon, FTSE, Chief Operating Officer, Orica Monitor and GroundProbe.

Dr Noon will deliver a thought provoking keynote titled 'Engaging with Innovation and Disruption'.

Engaging with Innovation and Disruption

There are numerous examples where innovative business models, combined with technology disruptions, have “Netflixed” existing behemoths to create new mega-behemoths - eg. Blockbuster peaked at US$5B market cap and is no more, whilst Netflix today sits on a US$160B market cap! Similar examples exist in the employment marketplace, where ‘routine’ careers have been displaced through automation or digital disruption – what has happened to librarians, secretaries, and stockbrokers?

Australia is colloquially known as the “clever country” and Australians aspire to “have a fair go”. In fact, Australia ranks #6 out of 24 developed economies in the level of entrepreneurial activity, and Australia outperforms many other developed economies on many indicators for business start-ups, including growth aspirations, and number of opportunity driven start-ups and innovativeness. But how can Australia’s engineers, technologists and entrepreneurs further engage in the opportunities that are created by technology disruption and business innovation? The future of Australia’s prosperity could largely be driven by this engagement.

Networking over canapes and drinks will follow the lecture.
