Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical) / Bachelor of Mathematics
Who or what made you choose to study this?
My favourite subjects in high school were mathematics and physics because I thoroughly enjoyed their challenging, yet fascinating nature of them. As well as my passion for these subjects, I was motivated to make the Bachelors of Engineering (Honours)/Mathematics my choice of study because I want to apply what I learn in these degrees to help others, whether that may be using statistical modeling to combat climate change, creating revolutionary technology to improve the lives of patients or making renewable energy more affordable, for example.
What do you love most about your degree?
Electricity and technology have always seemed magical to me, so learning how it works and the crucial role mathematics plays in their applications is what I love most about my degree. I also love how my degree strikes a great balance between the practical and technical aspects of engineering.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying at UQ, what would that be?
If you are new to the university, you may struggle with adjusting to the more independent style of learning compared to high school. If you experience this, my advice would be to take advantage of all the academic support offered, such as academic advisors, the FYELC, and tutors in your tutorials at UQ. This is something I wished I'd done more of in my first semester at UQ because it helped me during my second semester.
