Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical and Materials)
Who or what made you choose to study this?
I feel as though I have always been drawn to engineering. From a young age, I developed a keen interest in maths and science, snd was always keen to learn and see how different phenomena occur, or how certain objects work. This developed into a bit of a fascination behind the mechanical aspect of engieneering, and I have always been drawn to pursuing a career in this industry, as I love to see and learn how things operate, as well as designing and manuacturing said parts.
What do you love most about your degree?
I love being able to develop a deep technical understanding of many engineering principles and different aspects of the world we live in. I have always enjoyed applied science and maths, and engineering is a great extension of this, giving me the insight to see how things work, as well as being able to design fit for purpose equipment and objects.
Tell us about any internships you've participated in.
I recently was fortunate enough to work as an undergraduate for South32 at GEMCO in the Northern Territory. I worked as a reliability engineer and it was a great experience for me, and allowed me to develop many new relationships and learn a great deal about the industry. It gave me a great insight into the mining lifestyle, and allowed me to have a ‘working holiday’ due to my FIFO roster to and from Cairns, a city I had previously never visited.
