What do you study?

I am studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Engineering.

Why did you choose to study at UQ?

Ever since I started high school, I wanted to study at UQ. In grade 8 I was privileged to be able to visit UQ for a competition and was automatically memorised by the campus. Then in grade 12 when deciding my university applications and visiting Open Days, I found UQ appeared to have the best facilities and appeared to have a program most suitable for me.

Why did you choose to study your discipline?

I chose electrical engineering as I have always had a passion for electronics. I’ve always admired circuits ever since a young age and was always glued to a computer or device. I have a passion for the science and mathematics associated with electrical engineering and enjoy what I study. I especially love being able to work as a team and face extremely difficult design challenges and slowly working together to develop a viable solution. I also really want to make an impact in the world, I am intending to focus my electives in the area of biomedical electrical engineering to equip me with the skills I need to develop new technologies in medicine. One of my ambitions is to make affordable and accessible medical equipment of developing countries. I believe that I can achieve this with my discipline.

What is your favourite place on campus?

My favourite place on campus is either the electrical labs under Hawken, or the balcony on the top level of AEB. I love the electrical labs because it has all the equipment I need to construct any electrical device I want. The balcony on top of AEB is amazing as it has a view of the lakes as well as across the river, I enjoy going there for fresh air while studying, its quiet and usually isolated. I really appreciate how the campus is both urban but has a lot of nature.

What do you love most about your degree?

What I love most about my degree is that it has given me the opportunity to meet many great people and make connections I would never expect. I love that I have gained so much knowledge and developed so much as a person.

What makes you a great EAIT Student Ambassador?

The people on Open Day were extremely friendly and really helpful in my decision to study at UQ. I now get to be that person for other high school students which is really exciting, I can ensure more people have an amazing experience at UQ. I’ve gained plenty of confidence and many soft skills, I really love be able to talk about my degree to engage many more people to have the privilege to gain the same experiences as myself.
