Leaders of Influence Melbourne

Industry leaders, friends and alumni of The University of Queensland are invited to attend a special ‘Leaders of Influence’ Series cocktail reception, featuring Louis Vega, President & Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand and Vice President, Olympic & Sports Solutions at The Dow Chemical Company.

Louis will deliver a thought provoking keynote titled 'powering a global environment of inclusion'

Drawing on 20 years of experience at Dow, Vega will talk about inclusion as imperative for business success. He will address Dow’s successes in utilising sports partnerships in showcasing the company’s research and development innovations, customers’ market share growth and how the company has addressed global challenges such as carbon emissions.  As Dow’s second most senior Out executive, Louis will also discuss how this success has been enabled by an environment of inclusion.

About Louis Vega

Louis Vega, is President & Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand and Vice President, Olympic & Sports Solutions, at The Dow Chemical Company.

As President & MD, Vega is accountable for all operations across Australia and New Zealand; leading Dow’s 600 employees, four manufacturing sites and seven business centres. He is charged with the Region’s growth strategy, revenue and profitability, ‘go to market’ strategy, business development, investment decisions and multiple third party collaborations. 

In his role as Vice President of Olympic & Sports Solutions, Vega is responsible for extracting the full business and brand value of Dow’s partnerships with the Olympic Movement, Richard Childress Racing, the PGA and all of Dow’s sports franchises to drive revenue growth for the Company. Vega has established a business structure uniquely positioned to harness the combined power of the Dow brand, the Olympic Movement and Dow’s sports partnerships to drive revenue opportunities for Dow and value for Dow stakeholders. In this role, Vega serves as the primary focal point to the International Olympic Committee, sports federations and Host Committees for upcoming Olympic Games.

Vega joined Dow in 1998 and has advanced through a variety of roles in the Company from public affairs and government affairs to general business management where he is driving corporate strategy & business development through his extensive international experience; augmented through his postings in Horgen, Switzerland; Washington D.C.; Dubai, UAE; Midland, MI and New York, NY.

In 2016, Vega was named one of the Financial Times’ Top 10 LGBT Business Executives globally due to his considerable business responsibilities, impact and visibility. He remains a passionate advocate for workplace equality and has been honoured with the “OUTstanding in Business” recognition each year since it was founded in 2013. He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from New Mexico State University.

Prior to joining Dow, Vega’s career was a progressive series of roles in Washington, DC; from Capitol Hill to the Executive Branch, over the span of 12 years.  He has a degree in Government & Public Relations from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico and currently resides in Melbourne, Australia.
