The University of Queensland (UQ) Women in Engineering (WE) team are delighted to host our flagship annual event of the year, WE Explore Engineering Day.
WE are excited to showcase the diverse engineering opportunities at UQ through hands on workshops, interactive presentations and options to explore the incredible engineering precinct including the state of the art makerspace facility, UQ Innovate and the new Andrew N. Liveris Building, which opened to students this year.
You can select three workshops of your own choosing to attend during the day, while connecting and engaging with our passionate student leader team and faculty staff. Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Get in quick as individual workshop capacity is limited!
The UQ WE program is proudly supported by our industry program partners, Rio Tinto, The Australian Power Institute, Powerlink Queensland, Ergon Energy, Energex, Anglo American, Sandvik and EOS.

Making an Impact with Engineering | Join us for an interactive presentation where you learn about how diverse engineering really is with the six specialisations on offer at UQ and think differently about the impact you can make on this world through engineering. | Workshop 3 1pm–2pm |
Cookie Challenge | This fun interactive workshop will introduce you to the basics of chemical engineering concepts as well as test your decision making, teamwork and communication skills as you work together to extract the highest quality product out of choc chip cookies! | Workshop 2 11am–12pm |
Design Thinking 101
| Explore how you can solve some of the world’s most important challenges using Design Thinking. This interactive session will help you turn world changing ideas into impactful, sustainable enterprises. | Workshop 1 9:30am–10:30am Workshop 2 11am–12pm |
Giving Movement Back
| Learn how engineers help society in many ways, including giving movement back through prosthetic limbs. You will assemble and test a 3D printed prosthetic hand and learn about the mechanics and robotics behind this life changing device. | Workshop 3 1pm–2pm |
Study Fresh
| Students will put their electrical engineering hats on to create an air quality detection device to test the air quality of their classroom by programming Raspberry Pi’s while learning about the importance of indoor air quality. | Workshop 1 9:30am–10:30am |
Crack The Code | Run by UQ Cyber Squad team, students will work in groups to decipher secret messages using taught cipher methods. You will learn about the field of cryptography and hopefully send some decrypted responses back! | Workshop 3 1pm–2pm |
Clean Water
| This workshop focuses on issues related to sanitation and the provision of water. It aims to educate students about the current global water crisis and how to reduce their own water usage while designing and building a simple water filtration system for developing countries. | Workshop 1 9:30am–10:30am Workshop 2 11am–12pm |
