Discover how engineering and teamwork can improve access to essential services in developing communities. In this collaborative workshop, students explore the challenges of limited road infrastructure in Timor-Leste and how improved transport networks can increase access to education, healthcare and vital community resources.

Students are introduced to the range of professions involved in large infrastructure projects, including engineering, environmental planning and community engagement, and learn howtwo boys sitting down successful projects rely on collaboration across diverse teams.

Working in groups, students take on different professional roles to design a road for a rural community. Each team must consider competing priorities and project constraints before working together to determine the most effective route.

The workshop concludes with a reflection on the advantages and challenges of balancing different stakeholder needs, helping students understand the complexities of real-world infrastructure projects and the importance of the engineering design process.
